A few days ago I announced that I was removing my first book, “Magnetic Sponsoring” from Amazon. It was written 10 years ago, and despite it’s incredible popularity and impact, it’s a phase of my past that I would like to move-on from.
So tonight I’m supposed to pull the book off the market as promised, but I’ve run into one little unexpected problem…
Apparently that’s impossible.
Yep, it turns out that once you’ve listed a title for sale on Amazon, it’s there forever. You cannot remove it.
Yes, you can turn off availability on Kindle, (which I’ve done), but if there are hard-copies that have been listed, they will continue to sell the book until inventory is gone.
And even then, once that inventory has been sold and the status listed as, “unavailable”, used copies, along with the listing page itself, and your author bio, will remain there indefinitely without the ability to remove yourself from their ecosystem.
So like it or not, I’m stuck with this book forever.
Let this be a word of warning if you’re thinking about publishing a book on Amazon, especially those of you putting out fast/cheap titles to use as marketing pieces.
Whatever you publish there will be attached to you and your reputation for all time.
That being the case, I’m incredibly grateful that I produced a game-changing /best-selling book, but I feel extremely frustrated that the power to move on from that chapter in my life has unexpectedly been taken away by an entity I don’t control.
